If you're the type of person who jumps at the opportunity to create something that's both impressive and practical, then you'd be perfect for our Level 2 Technical Certificate in Brickwork.

This course is taught at our Middleton Campus in Middleton, Greater Manchester. In particular, it's located in our state-of-the-art Advanced Manufacturing and Technology Centre.

The building is one of the most sought-after places for trades-based training in the region - featuring 6,500 square-metres of the newest and most cutting edge equipment.

You'll spend most of your time rolling up your sleeves and actually getting hands-on experience - sometimes in our bespoke workshops and other times in the great outdoors.

You can look forward to working with our expert tutors who themselves have worked in the industry. They'll ensure that you're able to develop your skills and knowledge of the craft as you look ahead to starting your career in this timeless industry.

Entry Requirements
  • 4 GCSEs grade 3 or above to include English Language and Maths and a Level 1 qualification in Brickwork.

Entrants who do not have a grade 4 in Maths and/or English will continue studying these subjects at the college.

Applicants with 1-5 years' relevant industry experience will also be considered.

Details

You'll study a range of units which are designed to give you the grounding you need to enter the construction industry.

The following topics will provide you with the knowledge and skills to allow you to progress to the next level of study.

  • Principals or organising, planning and pricing construction work

  • Repair and maintain masonry structures

  • Constructing radial and battered brickwork

  • Carrying out decorative and reinforced brickwork

  • Constructing fireplaces and chimneys

  • Complex masonry structures

  • Health, safety and welfare in construction

Work Experience

There is no specific work experience required or undertaken for this course.

However, our bespoke workshops are designed to replicate a workplace environment and will allow you to feel comfortable in a professional setting.

In addition, you will be encouraged to show off your talents in cross-college skills competitions.

Progression

Upon completion of this course, you'll be in the ideal position to progress onto the next level of study.

However, you may also wish to pursue an apprenticeship or go into employment in roles such as construction worker, bricklayer or building maintenance.
